Singing and singing

You go to my head -- sang by Annie Sellick

You go to my head,
And you linger like a haunting refrain
And I find you spinning round in my brain
Like the bubbles in a glass of champagne.

You go to my head
Like a sip of sparkling burgundy brew
And I find the very mention of you
Like the kicker in a julep or two.

The thrill of the thought
That you might give a thought
To my plea casts a spell over me
Still I say to myself: get a hold of yourself
Can't you see that it can never be?

You go to my head
With smile that makes my temperature rise
Like a summer with a thousand Julys
You intoxicate my soul with your eyes
Tho I'm certain that this heart of mine
Hasn't a ghost of a chance in this crazy romance,
You go to my head.

Book Crossing o Libros libres

Bookcrossing: n. the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise.
-- source: Webster's New Millennium™ Dictionary of English, Preview Edition (v 0.9.7)

If you feel like bookcrossing, check this link, where you can see how to free books travel around the world. :)
Happy reading and bookcrossing.

Conjunctivitis

So... here I'm at home, with conjunctivitis. My eyes look pretty ok... not too pink and definitively not red as the ones of Wouter. It feels as if a grain of sand is permanently inside one of my eyes, and it is a big temptation to scratch (at least through the surface). The medicine that we got from our "house-doctor" (nothing to do with the series) is pretty oily, and blurs the world for about half an hour, and it also tastes awful (I get the flavor of the medicine in my mouth...). But anyhow, that it is all there is.
I hope that it will not last too much, and in the mean time I'll be working in the abstract of my never-ending paper, reading a couple of new articles and creating some artificial data to test the new "developments" we have in mind. All these at home, in half speed.

Endings and beginnings

I finished a long book that I was looking forward to read, but that disappointed me a little,
I finished a long game that I was sooo happy to play,
and I hope to finish my never-ending paper this week.

And I'm very happy to hear of the beginning of a little life in the home of a very good friend of mine!
and the arrival of another one in the home of my officemate. :)

Endings and beginnings all around!

Radio Kootwijk

We were visiting a friend of Wouter and his family this weekend in Apeldoorn.
The trip was very nice, we biked in the forests (some of which are Queen's propert), and saw more than 6 boars, a couple of shy deers and a huge building, that was a former radiostation -- Radio Kootwijk. It is an amazing building... it stands in the middle of nowhere, with heather fields around.

The radio-station was meant to connect the Netherlands to the colonies, specially to Indonesia. They found the perfect location for a long wave radio-station, built this huge building to house the equipment, and created a whole town for the workers. The antennas were almost as tall as the Eiffel tower (or approx. 7 times taller than this building). The bad part is that long wave became obsolete in a matter of years, and this phenomenal building passed to be part of the past...

Yesterday we were lucky to find it open, and we could sneak around for a while, and see an exposition of architectonic landscapes (triënnale?).

Very nice weekend, active biking and very interesting. Let's repeat it soon! ;)

Gray summer afternoon

from my office window. The whole day has been rainy and cloudy. That is what we call winter in my homeland.

Other visitors at home

This is the father or mother of a family that is lodging lately in our house... They are a family of "meesjes" and they made their nest in a tiny hole above my study. The hole is originally used for ventilation for the double wall that surrounds the house.

We know there are little ones inside, because papa en mama bring food often, and little noises come out of the corner. Also, we found a little dead bird once, who seems to have fallen from the nest. :(

Here: standing for the photo and flying out of home.
